Hello,
I'm new to the community but not computers. I was just wondering if i could get some insight from people more knowledgeable than I.
Ill begin with my old computer specs :-)
I built this computer in 2008 so it's getting old but still works pretty darn good
Intel dx58so motherboard with 5600 bios
core i7 920 C0 currently at 3.66ghz with turbo boost
6 gigs of Gskill 1600mhz DDR3 running at 1666mhz
850watt silverstone Decathelon modular power supply
XFX radeon HD7770 1105mhz core 1250mhz memory
WDC 650gb HDD
21.5" Dell st2220m HD monitor connected with an hdmi to dvi cable
22" Acer X223w non HD monitor connected with a DVI-D cable
I had windows vista for years, and could never get a very good overclock 3ghz was about my limit, and I could never run the memory at its rated 1600mhz without getting blue screens no matter what bios settings were changed. Even putting cpu to default speeds and trying the XMP profile for the memory and adjusting voltages etc the computer would never boot or get to windows without blue screening. So, I ran stable with a 3ghz cpu and 1200mhz memory overclock for years. Only recently meaning this week recently, I reformatted/repartitioned my hard drive and did a clean install of windows 7 x64 (had vista x64), then I immediately upgraded to windows 10 pro for free. Once windows 10 was finished, I installed the latest AMD display drivers(amd stopped supporting vista a while ago) and I also updated the latest bios from 5599 to 5600 and 5600 is even 3 years old o.O
So, with all that done I decided to see if I could play with overclocking more. Sure enough, when I put the cpu back to default speeds and enabled the XMP profile for the memory, the computer booted without issue and ran great at the 1600mhz rated speed, did multiple stability tests including aida64 and prime 95 and some benchmarks. everything seems good, so now I know the memory can run at its rated speed and my system can handle it.
I move to the cpu, put the memory back to default and increased the base clock to get 3.0ghz with turbo, leaving everything else on default like before and everything worked great stability tested for a while ran a bunch of games, benchmarks stress tests you know the drill. nothing went wrong, no crashes, freezes or blue screen, nothings just smooth running.
So now i know windows 10 is capable of letting me overclock my ram or my cpu i decided to go for what i want to run at which would be 3.6-3.8ghz and 1600mhz memory
With lots of trial and error I have come to the following.
At the moment My DX58SO Bios settings are as follows
Host clock 166
Static CPU voltage- Default
Dynamic CPU voltage Offset- 37mv
Max non turbo multiplier- x20
Cpu idle state- Low Power
Turbo Boost- Enabled
CPU VR current limit override- Enabled
Hyper Threading- Enabled
Memory
Profile-XMP then switch to manual to adjust voltage
Uncore Multiplier- x20
Memory Multiplier- x10
CL- 9
RCD- 9
RP- 9
RASmin- 24
Memory voltage- 1.62v
QPI / Uncore Voltage Override- 1.325v
Command Rate- 2T
Dimm Reference Voltage Training- Off
Bus
IOH core voltage 1.225v
QPI data rate- Auto
Intel Dynamic Power Technology
Enhanced Intel Speedstep- Enabled
CPU C State- Enabled
QPI Power Management- Enabled
C1E- Enabled
ACPI suspended state- S3 State
PCIe ASPM L0s- Enabled\
I don't know what these do
PCIe ASPM L1- Enabled/
That's about it for settings that i'm able to manipulate with the bios
Graphics card is set to 1105mhz core and 1250mhz memory with +20% power
With all of these settings the way they are, I can run prime95 and furmark at the same time and never break a sweat, i can run aida 64 FPU only test and never worry about temps, I can run all of the AIDA 64 tests at the same time with no issues, I can run all the benchmarks in the world, everythings good.
I'll even spend some time in world of tanks, world of warships, smite and some other games without any issues what so ever.
The issue
ill be idle at desktop and ill get a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR and it will reboot without issues I dont know what is causing this because no matter how much stress the computer is under, it will have no issues i could be sitting idle for 3 hours then randomly ill get the WHAE error. I'm looking for suggestions as to what voltages or settings i could change to remedy this odd problem. maybe its a windows 10 issue?
I also have another problem that I'm not sure is related to the overclocks or windows 10, or flash player, or what. But, as I said before, I can game, stress test, benchmark, you name it, but when i open a flash video(sometimes, not everytime) This will happen to the Dell
This ONLY happens when i open a flash video, usually on youtube. and it only ever starts on the Dell, Now this is where it gets weird
This problem doesnt start on the Acer, But when it happens, I can remove the hdmi/DVI cable from the DELL and connect it to the ACER, then these lines follow the HDMI cable right to the Acer. If i take the Acer cable(that still has a good normal picture) and connect it to the Dell, the Dell is still doing the same thing, so at this point if i swap the cables when the Dell starts doing this, BOTH monitors will do this. the only way to remedy the situation is to reboot the pc. then everything is back to normal. if i leave the cables swapped, and replicate the problem, it still starts on the dell even with the regular DVI-D cable instead of the HDMI cable. If i take a screenshot while this is happening, it comes out looking 100% normal
I have tried to remedy this problem by doing the following
Removing all overclocks and putting computer back to 100% factory defaults- still happens
disabling Adobe flash player hardware acceleration- still happens
removed and reinstalled the latest amd drivers- still happens
updated from 5599 bios to 5600 bios- still happens
Changed Desktop primary to the Acer monitor- Still happens
Swapped cables- still happens
removed and reinstalled Flash player- still happens
completely disconnected the Acer and went to single monitor set up- DID NOT HAPPEN YET
so the problem seems to only happen if i have both monitors connected. I have opened a ticket with XFX support to see if they have anything to say but im not holding my hopes very high, I've also posted a question on tomshardware and im awaiting a reply, I figured I'd give this board a try and see what I can come up with
Thanks for your time and i apologize for the amount of text and bad grammar/lack of punctuation
