My grandmother's mouse suddenly comes up as an "unknown device"

She has an Intel notebook. She unplugged her mouse (for some reason) and after that it stopped working. The laser glows for a few seconds after you plug it in, and then it stops.
We've tried putting in other mice to no avail. My flash drive works though. We've tried updating the drivers, but it's an old-ish model and I'm not sure if it even knows what it is. We've tried uninstalling the ports in Device Manager, which did nothing.
I would manually try to find the drivers, but I don't know where they're located or what they're called.
