Intel Driver & Support Assistant - update failing

Whenever I turn on my (Dell XPS 8920) computer I get a message from IDSA that 2 updates are available, and when I click on that message to get details I get the IDSA page with the following messages:

A newer version of the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant is required.
You must upgrade to the latest version to continue.

Click Installhttps://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html to upgrade to the new version.

Install

At this time a progress indicator below this message shows a system scan is in progress.

If I click Install as directed I always receive the following message:

Oops, something went wrong while trying to scan. Please try again, or see our FAQs for help.

I have tried this many times and get the same result every time.  Waiting for the scan to finish before clicking Install doesn't work as the scan never completes. I can find no FAQ's that help.

I have Windows 10 Home (64 bit) and Norton Internet Security and Malwarebytes Premium loaded on my system.

I would like to know how to make IDSA update so I can install the new drivers.

Thanks for any assistance available.
